Position: Full-time Pastor


Basic purpose:  This position exists to preach and teach God’s truths to the church, to provide spiritual leadership and mentorship for the church body and staff, and to cast vision and lead the church to enable it to be and become what God intends.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the theological, biblical, and essential duties satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Theological Qualifications

  1. The Senior Pastor’s statement of faith must be in general agreement with, and not in opposition to, the Southern Baptist Convention’s Baptist Faith and Message


Education and Experience Qualifications

  1. Seminary Degree – minimum of a Master’s Degree preferred

• At least 5 years pastoral experience


People skills required

  1. Caring, Open minded, Good listener, Ability to handle criticism, Loving, Patient, Ability to communicate effectively with diverse range of people


Personal skills required

  1. Self-starter, Good initiative, Confident, Sensitivity, Flexibility, Ability to deal with conflict


Managerial skills required

  1. Ability to motivate, Leadership, Planning, Discernment, Verbal and written communication skills, the ability to recruit and mentor people, ability to handle conflict


Basic computer skills required

  1. MS Office Suite – Word, Excel, Power Point – basic knowledge of the use of these programs


Biblical Qualifications

The primary qualifications for a pastor are given in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 and constitute the spiritual criteria that should be expected of any man being considered for Senior Pastor as summarized below:


1. Relation to God

  1. A man – masculine leader, not a female

  2. Above reproach – without major character  defect

  3. Able to teach – effective Bible communicator

  4. Not a new convert – mature Christian


2.  Relation to Family

  1. Husband of one wife – A man of fidelity, sexually pure

  2. Has obedient children – A successful father

  3. Manages family well – Provides for, leads, organizes and loves


3. Relation to self

  1. Temperate – Mentally and emotionally stable

  2. Self controlled – Disciplined life of consistently sound decision making

  3. Not given to drunkenness – Without addictions

  4. Not a lover of money – Financially responsible, content and upright


4. Relation to others

  1.   Respectable – Worth following and imitating

  2. Hospitable – Welcoming spirit

  3. Not violent – Even tempered in word and deed

  4. Gentle – Kind, gracious, loving

  5. Not contentious – peaceable, not quarrelsome/divisive

  6. Good reputation with outsiders – respected by non-Christians


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. 1.Preaching and teaching

  2. Effectively preach the authoritative Word so that believers may be strengthened in their faith and non-believers may be confronted with the loving claim of God upon their lives

  3. Effectively teach the authoritative Word for the enrichment and strengthening of believers and for the strengthening of doctrine and ethics so that the church may be salt and light in the community

  4. Maintain a regular schedule for personal study and spiritual development

  5. Develop and deliver sermons for Sunday worship services

  6. Provide leadership to evangelism and discipleship ministry in coordination with staff and lay leaders including both the Sunday School and Wednesday evening programs

  7. Practice and model personal witness and evangelism in the community


2. Leadership and planning

  1. Lead staff and lay leadership to define a coordinated  ministry vision and ministry plan to establish priorities in ministry and administration, work with staff in evaluation of programs, ministries and goals

  2. Ensure staff, facilities and programs are effectively aligned to enable the fulfillment of the ministry plan

  3. Serve as an ex-officio member on all church committees.  The pastor will have primary responsibilities relating to the deacon body and the finance/budget committee

  4. Give general supervision to all paid staff

  5. Nurture effective lines of communication between the staff and lay leadership

  6. Plan and lead quarterly business meetings with the church body to review ongoing church ministries and programs


3. Pastoral and Missions ministries

  1. Lead the church to develop and strengthen its relationships to denomination and community

  2. Oversee and coordinate ordained and lay leadership in providing the ministry care needs of the congregation by leading and participating in hospital visitation, home visits, and prospective contacts

  3. Provide Scripturally-based, first level, pre-marital, marriage, and crisis counseling

  4. Perform weddings and funerals as requested by the church body
